BPCRN’s Role in Pediatric Trial Facilitation During and Beyond conect4children

New Publication: Highlighting RSV Immunization Policies Across Europe

03/03/2026 - 09:24

We are pleased to share the recent publication, “The evolving landscape of RSV immunization: Current policies and practices across Europe” (Vaccine, 2026, online ahead of print; PMID: 41690867).

This article provides a comprehensive overview of current RSV immunization policies and implementation strategies across 32 European countries, reflecting the rapidly evolving landscape following the introduction of new RSV vaccines and long-acting monoclonal antibodies. The analysis offers important insights into national decision-making processes, programme design, and early adoption patterns across Europe.

Belgian Pediatric Clinical Research Network contributed to this publication through co-authorship within the network of European national coordinators. BPCRN’s involvement underscores its role in connecting Belgian pediatric research expertise to broader European collaborations focused on vaccination strategies, policy alignment, and evidence-based prevention in children.

The publication is also closely aligned with the objectives of PIPELINE project, a European adaptive platform trial initiative focused on infectious diseases affecting pregnant women and infants. PIPELINE aims to establish a sustainable, multi-country clinical trial infrastructure capable of rapidly evaluating vaccines and preventive strategies in maternal and early life settings. The RSV immunization landscape described in this article is directly relevant to such preparedness platforms, where harmonised policies, implementation pathways, and coordinated research networks are essential. conect4children plays an important role within this broader ecosystem, linking national pediatric networks such as BPCRN to large-scale European platform initiatives.

This publication aligns with BPCRN’s mission to strengthen pediatric clinical research infrastructure in Belgium and to support the development and implementation of safe and effective preventive interventions for children, while actively contributing to European preparedness frameworks for emerging infectious threats.
