This article provides a comprehensive overview of the development, structure and impact of the Belgian Pediatric Clinical Research Network (BPCRN) in Belgium’s pediatric clinical research ecosystem. It details how BPCRN has grown into a coordinated platform that connects 15 pediatric study sites across the country, offering a single-point-of-contact model to streamline communication with sponsors, investigators and clinical teams.
A central focus of the publication is BPCRN’s participation in the conect4children (c4c) initiative, an Innovative Medicines Initiative project aimed at improving the efficiency, quality and integration of pediatric clinical trials across Europe. Through this collaboration, BPCRN supported six commercial and non-commercial trials, and facilitated more than 20 additional studies with other international partners. The article also outlines the network’s governance structure and strategic planning for sustainability and future growth.
By summarizing BPCRN’s achievements and operational model, this publication underlines the network’s role in lowering barriers to pediatric research, enhancing trial facilitation in Belgium, and reinforcing the country’s contribution to high-quality clinical development for children. It positions BPCRN as a key partner in international research efforts aimed at addressing unmet therapeutic needs in pediatrics.
